Finding a balance between annoying the living daylights out of your leads and failing entirely to guide them along the sales process is a difficult (and potentially threatening) game to play. According to The Marketing Donut (trust us, they are more reputable than they sound) 63 percent of people requesting information on your company today will not start purchasing for another 3 months. Another 20 percent will take an additional 12 months before they decide to buy from you so peppering them with phone calls and e-mails may do much more harm than good. Making a sale is a long process that requires patience (and great online lead management). Think about it like you would a relationship, you would not go into a first date and go, “OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU I WANT TO MARRY YOU.” That would be a little forward (and you might be arrested). So try to take a more progressive and gradual approach to improve sales performance. “Good relations with the Wookiees, I have.” Now this may not be the most acute snippet of Yoda wisdom, but it is still relevant to the sales process (just replace Wookies with ‘leads’). In the movies Yoda is around 900 years old and he would be mad to travel back and forth across the galaxy between the Jedi Council Chamber in Coruscant to the Wookie planet of Kashyyk. Intergalactic space travel can be especially tiring (especially after you have seen centuries of war with people that specialize in what is essentially very dark, and very creepy, voodoo magic). Yoda would probably use some other means of communication to get in contact with the Wookies, and, when he did not have access to a holopad (or kneepad) he probably would have resorted to something like Twitter or Facebook to send a message. Like Yoda, you can also use social media to engage with Wookies or leads. According to Beta21, 93 percent of businesses and marketers have social media profiles (which is a good thing). What is upsetting is that those companies only respond back to 30 percent of social media fans’ feedback which can make the consumer feel like their opinion does not count. So be sure to respond back, not only will it improve sales performance but it will make your customers happy.
